Safe passing law a great starting place

In January, the Beaumont city council passed an ordinance that makes streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists. All vehicles must now switch lanes, if possible, or give at least three feet of room when passing. Commercial vehicles drivers must give pedestrians and cyclists six feet of room.

“Making Beaumont more walkable and more bike-friendly is good for the city’s economy, quality of life, and the health and safety of its citizens,” said Mayor Becky Ames in a statement.

The Safe Streets Texas coalition applauds this move.
